Obviously, Muslims are not originally from America. Many Muslims from all over the world migrated there, in search of the American dream. They came from countries like Pakistan, India, some African countries, the Middle East and so on. Though the Muslim American society can boast of several achievements in the society in all fields, they did have some problems several years ago, when the terrorist attacks frightened the US and the whole world. Some extremists were putting the blame on all Muslims and acted accordingly, not paying interest to the fact that Islam preaches peace and love between men.
But not all Muslims in America are coming from other countries, for many Americans have decided to convert to Islam. Among them, there are many African Americans. Generally Muslims thrive in America, most of them having very respecable jobs, and some becoming millionaiers over the years. Representatives of the Muslim community are sometimes invited at The White House. Despite that, racism was strong around the year 2000, mainly because of the World Trade Centre attacks in 1993 and 2001. Though this was not as severe as expected, a series of other damages followed in United States Embassies around the world.
Because of that, unfortunately some Americans began to feel Islamophobic. They generalized all Muslims and there were some social disturbances in the country. After this, there has been a large drop in the activities and contributions of Muslim Americans in America. It’s a shame, but frankly it was inevitable, because extremists can be found anywhere, in any country of the world, and they usually appear after serious events that constitute an attack at a country’s identity and security. Fortunately, those days are gone.
The Muslims in America also maintain their faith in Islam like all good Muslims do, with little influence of the society’s way of life there. Yet, it is inevitable for some young Muslims to stray a little from the normal Muslim path. They have many associations in the country, which allow the Muslim community to unite together, and these associations support Muslims in various ways. From organizing prayer meetings to religious festivals, they do a lot of things, and many Muslim families take part in these activities, because this is a nice bondage with their countries of origin.
Generally the fear that there some young Muslim men and women who are brought to the country are ill treated by their own families after marriage, because they don’t speak English, is not based on reality. In fact, all newcomers to America are generally treated well, because accepting people from all over the world was and still is one of America’s most well enforced policies. Concluding, the average Muslim American person lives life in a normal way, not better than the others, but not worse either. |
